In a passionate response to a tragic incident, the father of a 13-year-old girl who was allegedly raped in a Queens park has criticized President Joe Biden’s immigration policies, attributing the attack to what he describes as an “open border” approach. The accused, Christian Geovanny Inga-Landi, an Ecuadorian migrant, is said to have entered the United States illegally and committed the assault on June 13.
In an emotional interview, the father expressed his anguish and frustration, directly blaming the current administration’s immigration stance for enabling the circumstances that led to his daughter’s assault. “This should never have happened,” he said. “If our borders were secure, this man would not have been here to hurt my child.”
The incident has intensified debates over immigration policies, particularly focusing on the balance between humanitarian efforts and national security. Inga-Landi, who allegedly bound, gagged, and raped the young girl, had previously been apprehended by Border Patrol in Texas but was released and later ordered to leave the country by an immigration judge in February 2022. Despite this order, he remained in the U.S.
The girl’s father demanded stricter enforcement of immigration laws to prevent such tragedies in the future. “Our government needs to protect its citizens first,” he stated. “We need stronger borders and better enforcement to ensure people like this cannot slip through the cracks.”
The assault has sparked significant media coverage and political reactions. While some news outlets have focused on the crime itself, others have highlighted President Biden’s recent executive order aimed at granting permanent residency status to long-term migrant spouses of U.S. citizens. This policy has been praised for its humanitarian benefits but criticized by opponents who argue it may lead to lax enforcement of immigration laws.
Homeland Security Committee chairman Mark Green (R-Tenn.) echoed the father’s sentiments, arguing that the current administration’s policies are putting Americans at risk. “This case is a tragic example of what happens when our immigration laws are not enforced,” Green said. “We need to prioritize the safety and security of our citizens.”
Following his arrest, Inga-Landi was ordered to be held without bail by Judge Joanne B. Watters, who cited his limited ties to the community and potential flight risk as reasons for the decision. His next court appearance is scheduled for July 1.
This incident continues to fuel the contentious debate over immigration policy in the United States, highlighting the urgent need for a balanced approach that ensures both the security of citizens and the humane treatment of migrants.
