A large charter vessel carrying between 350 and 400 passengers collided with a pier along the Hudson River near West 125th Street on Saturday afternoon, sparking panic and injuring dozens.
The vessel, identified as the “Timeless,” was returning from a scheduled cruise when it struck a wooden pylon while attempting to dock. The impact caused chaos on board, with multiple people thrown off balance as the boat lurched forward.
Emergency crews responded swiftly. Around 35 individuals sustained injuries, with 22 transported to nearby hospitals for further treatment. Most injuries were non-life-threatening, ranging from cuts and bruises to sprains and minor head trauma. Others were evaluated and treated at the scene.
The Coast Guard took control of the scene and guided the vessel to a secure location for inspection. Investigators are now reviewing possible causes, including human error, mechanical failure, or overcapacity.
As summer river traffic intensifies, the incident raises renewed concerns over safety regulations and oversight of New York City’s busy water tourism operations.
