A harsh lesson for those against arming teachers and security in schools has just been handed down thanks to a brave and selfless man by the name of Deputy First Class Blaine Gaskill.
Tuesday morning in a southern Maryland high School, shots rang out as 17-year old Austin Rollins fired his father’s 9mm Glock handgun at an ex-girlfriend, Jaelynn Willey. An unidentified 14-year old is also being treated for a gunshot wound to the leg.
While the left wants to apply the same tactics used in the war on drugs to us legal, and responsible gun owners, they shout down our pleas for armed teachers or security guards in schools.
They quip back with absurd counter-arguments like “it would just create a more confusing environment for responders” and “crossfire!”.
Well, Officer Gaskill’s actions on Tuesday should put that argument to bed. If only the people arguing with us were open to reason that is.
Within 1 minute of the first gunshot, Officer Gaskill was on sight, weapon drawn and was able to put down this would-be mass killer, saving countless lives in the process.
To put it in perspective, the recent shooting in Parkland, Florida, the shooter started at roughly 2:21 pm had time leave the scene, grab a drink and a sandwich at a nearby Walmart, and police finally apprehended him at 3:41. A full hour and twenty minutes later.
Now, it would be irresponsible of me not to mention that there was an officer on duty at the Florida high school as well, except Officer Scott Peterson chose the coward’s option and sat idly by as lives were cut short.
I felt it necessary to write this article because you simply won’t hear this on the likes of CNN, or MSN.
The answer (that we’ve been saying all along) is right in front of them, if only they could see the forest through the trees.
