The body cam footage from the traffic stop involving Tyre Nichols should be released to the public by the city of Memphis.
On Friday, President Biden reached out to Tyre Nichols’ family to express his admiration for how they handled the tragedy.
Biden called for releasing the body cam footage from the traffic stop that led to Nichols’ death on Friday when Memphis officials plan to do so. Everyone in the household has already watched the movie.
“President Biden and Dr. Biden paid a visit to Tyre Nichols’ mother, Mrs. RowVaughn Wells, and stepfather, Rodney Wells, this afternoon to express their sorrow over Nichols’ passing. The President praised the family’s resiliency and determination during their phone conversation with him, “what the Oval Office claims.
On January 7, at around 8:30 p.m., Nichols was taken into custody by police in Memphis. “Nichols had been pulled over for “reckless driving,” and a “confrontation” had taken place during his detention, leading to his attempt at flight. When officers finally located Nichols, he allegedly became combative with them and complained of being short of breath.
Finally, the suspect was apprehended, MPD said. The man then signaled that he was having trouble breathing and asked for assistance.
According to the TBI, Nichols was pronounced deceased on January 10 after being taken to St. Francis Hospital in critical condition.
Since the incident, five ex-Memphis police officers have been arrested and charged with second-degree murder, aggravated assault, and other crimes.
The president had already made a statement urging peaceful protests and reiterating his support for working within the criminal justice system.
Unfortunately, confidence has been eroded or broken down in many American communities. For example, Biden said in his statement, “Tyre’s death should be a wake-up call about the need to change the judicial system, so everyone is treated with respect. I support the family of Tyre’s nonviolent protest even while the country mourns, the DOJ investigates, and state officials do their jobs. Feeling firmly about a problem is typical, but acting violently is never justified. To wage war is both immoral and destructive. Those who believe that peaceful protest can bring about change should not enter.
