The police chief thinks that the people who came to bury a murder victim may have been the intended targets.
On Tuesday, a person opened fire outside of a funeral home in Washington, D.C., killing four people. One of them was lost.
At first, a person inside the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) said that police had gone to the 4000 block of Benning Road NE to help victims of the mass killing that had happened there.
Robert Contee, the head of the Metropolitan Police Department, went to the scene and told the press that they think the victims were chosen on purpose. People were leaving a funeral for a man who had been killed at the end of March when the incident happened. At 12:17 p.m., a police officer waiting at a bus stop nearby said he heard shots.
Contee says that the member has helped more than one person. All four victims were adults who were over 18 years old. The chief said that one person died and that three other people were taken to nearby hospitals with serious but not life-threatening injuries.
The Metropolitan Police Department is now asking for help from the people. Contee told anyone who might know something, “Please call us at 202-727-9099 or 50411 without giving your name.”At this point, it looks like a few people on the street were meant to be targets. There’s no clear reason for it. No one knows who or what started the attack or why it happened when a funeral was going on. We just can’t figure out what that means. In simple terms, we need help from the people.
Nobody has been able to figure out who did it. On the other hand, it looks like the people in line were chosen by hand. “At this point, we really don’t have any choices,” the boss said.
Contee says that it’s not clear if the killing was random or part of a drive-by at this point.
It looks like there were no guns fired in this fight. He said that it looked like the four people who were shot were standing on the curb.
The funeral has come to an end. When this happened, there were a lot of people there. We are also trying to figure out who shot at the funeral.
Contee did not say the name of the person who was killed in March and whose life was remembered at the service.
