A 29-year-old man was rushed to the hospital following an altercation with police, and he died a few days later. Five ex-Memphis police officers have been arrested and are being detained on several counts linked to the guy’s death.
On January 7, Memphis police stopped Tyre Nichols for a traffic violation. Reports of Nichols’ death surfaced on January 10. Nichols has a racial background, with the five other ex-cops also being investigated.
As reported by Fox News, Nichols was reportedly stopped for “careless driving” on January 7 in Memphis at the intersection of Raines Road and Ross Road.
According to the police report, a “confrontation” occurred, and Nichols fled while cops chased him.
The police said he was apprehended following “additional contacts while attempting to take the suspect into custody.” After that, the offender made a radio request for aid, claiming he was having trouble breathing.
The death of a man in Memphis has prompted an investigation into whether local police followed protocol.
Examples include Tadarrius Bean, Emmit Martin, Desmond Mills, and Desmond Haley.
Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley, Emmit Martin III, Desmond Mills, Jr., and Justin Smith have reportedly been detained on accusations of second-degree murder, aggravated assault (in concert), and two counts of aggravated abduction, according to local news sources.
According to reports in the local media, several police officers have been detained on multiple counts, including official oppression, second-degree murder, aggravated assault – act in concert, aggravated kidnapping inflicting bodily injury, and aggravated kidnapping while armed.
According to reports, bails for Haley and Martin were set at $250,000 and $350,000, while Smith, Mills, and Bean were each set at $250,000.
Martin’s attorney Bill Massey notified the press that his client had surrendered after receiving charges.
This was reported on Wednesday by Memphis Police Chief Carolyn Davis.
Chief Davis stated, “It is my job to talk about what the Memphis Police Department is doing, has done, and will continue to do to find the truth about this tragic loss, to make sure we communicate honestly and openly, and to make sure that those responsible for Tyre Nichols’ death are held fully accountable.”
According to Fox News, Davis remarked, “This is not simply an accident at work.” One of the five investigating officers said, “They let down the Nichols family and the rest of the community.” Nichols’ death is under investigation.
Davis referred to the murder of Nichols as “vile, reckless, and savage.” To be forthright, he stated that the footage of Nichols’ altercation with the police would be released to the public within the following few days.
What Davis said to the group was, “Please pay attention. I pray you will be as moved as the Nichols family was.” Our law enforcement officials have taken an oath to preserve ideals that contrast sharply with those shown in the film. When you encounter apparent human rights abuses, you will feel justifiable fury; I have no doubt.
Davis requested that everyone take a deep breath once the video was released.
Nichols’ loved ones viewed the body camera footage from the police on Monday.
At a news conference held on behalf of the Nichols family, human rights attorney Ben Crump stated that Nichols’ mother could not sit through more than a minute of the film.
The Daily Wire said that locals in Memphis were bracing for rioting and protests when the footage of Nichols’ confrontation with police was released.
The crime rate in Memphis is increasing, according to many sources. With George Soros’s backing, Steven Mulory won the election to the position of district attorney in Shelby County. This resulted in a softening of criminal penalties.
The Daily Wire reports that the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation claims to have “no clue” if demonstrations or rioting are imminent.
