Authorities say the now-deceased suspect in the tragic mass shooting in Monterey Park, California, made various claims to police earlier this month.
On Monday, police in Hemet, California, where the suspect is thought to have lived, issued a statement.
On January 7 and 9, 2023, the guy “entered the Hemet Police Department lobby, citing prior fraud, theft, and poisoning claims involving his family in the Los Angeles region 10 to 20 years ago,” according to the police report.
According to the police report, the suspect “said he would return to the station with paperwork confirming his charges but never arrived.”
The guy is suspected of murdering 11 people and wounding numerous more at a dance studio on Saturday night. The Daily Wire is not identifying the culprit following its stance of denying mass shooters undue publicity.
Officials stated on Sunday that the man died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound inside a white van during a confrontation with police after a second attempted attack was foiled hours earlier.
About 85 miles southeast of Monterey Park, in the gated senior community of Hemet, police executed a search warrant at the suspect’s mobile home, as reported by KTLA.
Sherriff Robert Luna of Los Angeles County said Monday that deputies had recovered a.308 caliber rifle, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, and equipment that suggested the suspect was constructing homemade firearm suppressors.
A motive, Luna added, has not been determined. He said we are working extremely hard to learn as much as you do.
Relatives and friends of the suspect told CNN that he met his ex-wife at the dancing studio in Monterey Park, where the incident occurred on Lunar New Year’s Eve. According to court documents, the suspect is a Chinese immigrant who filed for divorce in late 2005. A judge granted the divorce the following year.
