Florida’s Republican governor, Ron DeSantis, has called on Congress to intervene if Apple Inc. removes Twitter from the app store, calling it a “raw abuse of monopolistic power.”
During a speech about infrastructure improvements in Duval County, Florida, DeSantis touched on many topics, beginning with the ongoing lockdowns and protests in China because of the COVID virus.
At first, DeSantis brought up claims that Apple was “providing aid and comfort to the CCP” by blocking demonstrators’ use of the messaging app AirDrop.
This news is alarming,” he continued. Even more worrisome were rumors that Apple had pondered removing Twitter from its app store after Elon Musk’s takeover.
According to DeSantis, one of the most improved areas is honest reporting on the COVID pandemic. Then you hear that Elon Musk is re-enabling numerous suspended accounts for releasing accurate information on COVID and that Apple is threatening to ban Twitter from its app store.
The Florida governor continued by saying that many “experts” were wrong and that the “last government” had utilized Twitter to censor dissenters and prevent them from disputing official narratives. This led them to try to “suffocate the issue,” which “Elon Musk recognizes is not a good strategy,” he claimed.
DeSantis concluded his remarks by saying Congress should act if Apple deletes the apps from the App Store. The United States Congress must step in because “it would be a harsh exercise of monopoly power.”
Don’t “suffocate” Americans with your business power or try to stifle their freedom of expression, he said, or you’ll appear like a CCP puppet.
While DeSantis recognized that much remained to be done in the realm of Big Tech, he was encouraged by the rapid development of Twitter under Musk’s stewardship.
