During the Senate Health Policy committee’s talks about Bill 254, protesters spoke out against it very strongly.
Members of the LGBTQ group “Equality Florida,” along with other left-wing activist groups and Democratic state lawmakers, recently gathered at the Florida state capitol to protest against Republican Party-backed bills that would make it harder for minors to get sex change surgeries and therapies.
Representative Anna Eskamani, a Democrat from Florida, told a loud group of pro-LGBTQ people that the bill would “erase our trans babies.” A video of her speech quickly went viral.
Monday, there were protests in Tallahassee at an event called “Pride at the Capitol.” This was in response to Senate Bill 254, which would make it harder for minors to get sex reassignment surgery.
During the time that the Florida Senate Health Policy Committee talked about Bill 254, there were protests.
The Florida Standard says that the law “puts limits on how young people under the age of 18 can get sex reassignment medications and procedures,” and that Republican state Senator Clay Yarborough is behind it.
Yarborough said that Bill 254 was made to “protect children from the different life-changing and unknown long-term negative effects that these therapies and procedures might have on them.”
People on the left and in the Democratic Party are against the bill because they think transgender kids will be “vilified” if it passes. The state government would be able to step in when a family permits for a child to go through sex reassignment treatments. This was another reason they said the law should not be passed.
On Monday, when the law was being talked about, its opponents protested in a big way. The Standard took a video of people who don’t like Gov. Ron DeSantis yelling outside the Capitol building. The demonstrators yelled “Excuse me! Ho ho! Ron DeSantis needs to be fired from his job! “This is where we live!”
Lawmakers and activists held a small protest inside the building to show their disagreement with the laws that the Florida Republican Party has passed. In front of an angry crowd, lawmakers held up signs that said “Ban Hate, Not Books.” This was a jab at the DeSantis administration’s plans to get rid of pro-LGBTQ books from public school libraries and CRT-based classes from state school curricula.
The drag queens there also held a sign that said, “Free States Don’t Ban Drag Shows.”
During the rally, Rep. Eskamani yelled that the Senate measure would “erase our trans babies” in Florida. He was talking about the Democratic minority in the state.
During her speech, the politician made the following claims: “When trans people can’t get health care that fits their gender identity, they are erased. Your actions are wiping out our transgender children.”
Now, we have to deal with a governor who wants to kill all trans people “In another part of her speech where she was critical of DeSantis, she said.
The Florida Standard, though, said that Eskamani’s words turned off some Democrats who were already against SB 254. The newspaper says that a “leading Democrat” told them, “Anna is why we lose.” This person knew that Anna’s extreme views put Florida Democrats in a tough spot.
Fox News Digital tried to get a response from Eskamani’s office about whether or not he still stands by his views, but was unable to do so.
