Elon Musk, Twitter’s new owner and CEO, has stated the firm may reveal internal conversations over the decision to bury the “Hunter Biden laptop from hell” story to rebuild public faith.
Musk remarked in response to a tweet from Alex Lorusso, a former Twitter user who now works for the conservative college group Turning Point USA.
In the interest of transparency, before the 2020 election, Lorusso said, “Raise your hand if you think @ElonMusk should make public the internal deliberations concerning the decision to edit the @NYPost’s report on Hunter Biden’s laptop.”
Musk remarked, “This is required to rebuild public trust.”
Musk had earlier today said that people everywhere should “know the truth” regarding Twitter’s level of political restriction.
The more I discover, the direr the situation becomes. Musk has argued that the public needs to know the truth about what has been happening on Twitter. People will have faith in you if you are honest with them.
One of the most prominent examples of Silicon Valley’s intervention in the 2020 election on behalf of Democrats was the suppression of the Hunter Biden laptop story by numerous digital platforms, including Twitter.
Twitter banned the Post’s account for 16 days after it published a blockbuster article in October 2020 about Hunter Biden’s international business dealings and President Joe Biden’s awareness of them. Since the ban occurred within a month of the 2020 presidential election in November, Dorsey and Twitter were accused of meddling in the race. The site also made it so users couldn’t tweet the Post’s report.
The CEO of Twitter at the time, Jack Dorsey, ultimately conceded the social media site had made a mistake by removing the item. It was almost quickly overturned, Dorsey said. We also should have restored the account without demanding that the tweet be erased.
