In a tragic family dispute in Florida, a 23-year-old mother, Abrielle Baldwin, was fatally shot by her 14-year-old brother during an argument over Christmas gifts. The incident occurred on Sunday night while Baldwin, her two sons aged 6 and 10 months, her two teenage brothers, and their mother were out shopping, according to Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri.
The argument reportedly started when the 14-year-old became upset that his older brother was receiving more gifts. The dispute escalated upon returning to Baldwin’s grandmother’s house. The younger brother, armed with a .40 caliber handgun, threatened to shoot his older brother and then turned the gun on Baldwin, shooting her in the chest. Baldwin’s 10-month-old son, who was in a carrier at the time, was unharmed.
In a subsequent turn of events, the 15-year-old brother retrieved his own .45 caliber handgun and shot the 14-year-old in the stomach. The older teen fled the scene and later discarded the weapon. Sheriff Gualtieri reported that the 14-year-old, who allegedly shot Baldwin, was hospitalized in stable condition and would be taken into custody upon release.
Local prosecutors are now reviewing the case to determine whether the 14-year-old should be charged as an adult for his sister’s killing. Meanwhile, the 15-year-old has been arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder and tampering with evidence.
This tragic incident has shocked the local community, highlighting the devastating impact of family disputes and the presence of firearms in domestic settings. The investigation into this incident is ongoing, with further details expected as the case progresses through the legal system.
