Geoff Tracy, the spouse of CBS anchor Norah O’Donnell, conducted a surprise inspection at Chef Geoff’s, a popular Washington, D.C. restaurant. Federal immigration agents were present. The establishment’s I-9 employment verification forms were the primary focus of the visit, which occurred on the morning of May 6.
The operation, which was part of a coordinated series of inspections targeting multiple establishments across the city on the same day, lasted approximately 90 minutes and did not result in any arrests. Millie’s, Pupatella, Chang Chang, and Ghostburger were among the additional locations.
Concern among city officials and local business owners has been generated by the recent surge in inspections. Mayor Muriel Bowser of Washington, D.C., expressed concern regarding the potential disruption that these enforcement actions could cause to the community and law-abiding workers.
The operation is conducted in conjunction with increased federal initiatives to ensure that the food and hospitality sector adheres to immigration regulations and verifies employment eligibility.
