It never ceases to amaze me when people who have broken the law make demands that are unattainable, but in this case I truly hope that Democrats take up their demands.
This could end the Democratic party and lead to a tsunami in the 2018 mid term elections. Illegals marched to Chuck Schumer’s house in protest to the continuing resolution that did not contain DACA protections.
They are now demanding citizenship today, not tomorrow. If the Democrats take up that cause, DACA is dead. They would need to vote in favor of the bill by a count of 49-0 and then would need 11 Republicans to vote for it.
Then when Obama vetoes the bill they would need 18 GOP Senators. Good luck with that.
The group leading the protest is United We Dream and here is the announcement they made on their website:
Our community is outraged by the Senate vote to pass a temporary budget deal with no solution for Dreamers. Instead of holding firm for Dreamers, Senator Schumer and most Senate Democrats backed down from their commitment to stand up for our communities.
Join us outside Senator Schumer’s house to remind him: Our lives are on the line, Chuck! We need a clean Dream Act Now–not in three weeks. Now. 122 Dreamers will continue to lose their status every day, potentially losing their jobs and being put at risk of deportation. Congress can’t continue to push the lives of 800,000 youth and their families aside. Dreamers are tired of empty promises and need a legislative solution NOW!
It is past time for Senator Schumer to use his political power in Congress as the minority leader and finally bring home a clean #DreamActNow for undocumented youth, without compromising the future of their families by funding a racist wall and increased border security measures that only tear families apart.
They are overestimating the political clout Schumer has, especially after he folded like a cheap card table and earned the disdain of the Bernie Sanders wing of the Democratic party. Secondly, there are 10 Democrats up for reelection in states won by President Trump in 2018 and 9 of the 10 have seen their favorability drop like a rock.
Voting for citizenship for these illegal aliens could be the straw that broke the camel’s back. If they think Schumer could deliver citizenship no matter how hard he tried, they are Dreaming.
The Supreme Court has decided to expedite a ruling on DACA that would reveal their decision by late June. They wouldn’t be taking it up unless the majority wanted to rule against it. The DACA program has the same problem that DAPA did. It’s unconstitutional. The Supreme Court voted 4-4 on it’s constitutionality and the court now has Neil Gorsuch, who is a safe no vote.
The tie vote means that the lower court ruling stands. Originally Judge Andrew Hanen ruled DAPA to be unconstitutional and two appeals to the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals confirmed Hanen’s opinion.
If the Democratic party bows to the illegals the only decision left to the party would be burial or cremation.
