Ricardo Velasquez-Romero, also known as Eulalio Miniz Orozco, was arrested last month after law enforcement says he stabbed a 61-year-old man in the neck in Santa Rosa.
What’s worse, he’s been deported more than half a dozen times, according to an ICE spokesman.
The DHS databases states that Velasquez-Romero “has been repatriated to his native Mexico seven times since 2007,” a spokesman for ICE said.
“Records indicate Mr. Velasquez also has multiple prior criminal convictions, including those from felony drug and weapons charges,” said James Schwab, a spokesman in San Francisco for ICE.
According to Schwab, ICE has officially placed a detainer on Romero who currently resides in the Sonoma County jail – this indicates that they desire to take him into custody as soon as local law enforcement releases him and “continues to closely monitor the legal proceedings of Mr. Velasquez.”
According to reports, at the time of the stabbing, the victim, whose name has not been released, and Velasquez-Romero were sitting at different tables at the restaurant this took place at and had not spoken to one another.
“At one point, the suspect stood up and walked toward the victim,” the local police said a news release. “The suspect had an unknown stabbing instrument in his hand and stabbed the victim once in the neck. The suspect then fled the area on foot.”
The victim was immediately transported to a local hospital and has, since the suspect’s arrest, been upgraded to stable condition.
Velasquez-Romero has been charged with attempted murder.
Hopefully this time something will stick and this a-hole will find his way behind bars. Deporting him is clearly not enough (at least until the wall is built). Let us not forget about Kate Steinle… who, if you’ll recall, was shot to death in San Francisco in 2015 by Jose Ines Garcia Zarate, an illegal who had been deported numerous times.
The system failed then when he was acquitted of murder just last month.
