A citywide manhunt continues in New Orleans as seven fugitives remain at large following a coordinated jailbreak from the Orleans Justice Center. The breakout, discovered during a routine morning headcount, revealed a meticulously planned escape involving inmates charged with violent crimes including murder and armed robbery.
Authorities say the ten inmates exploited a gap behind a cell toilet, squeezing through a maintenance chase before reaching a loading dock. From there, they scaled a perimeter fence using blankets to bypass barbed wire, vanishing into the early morning darkness.
Three inmates have since been recaptured, but seven are still at large and considered armed and dangerous. Surveillance footage confirmed the escape, and law enforcement officials now suspect the incident may have been an inside job. Malfunctioning locks and possible staff involvement are under investigation, and three employees have been placed on administrative leave.
The FBI and U.S. Marshals have joined local law enforcement in the search effort, offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to any of the fugitives’ arrests.
Residents have been urged to remain cautious and immediately report any suspicious activity as authorities race to prevent further incidents tied to the escapees. The breach has intensified scrutiny of the jail’s security protocols and administrative oversight.
