Joey “Jaws” Chestnut made a victorious return to Coney Island, devouring 70½ hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes to reclaim his title at the annual Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest.
After missing last year’s competition due to a sponsorship conflict, the 41-year-old competitive eating icon roared back with a performance that left his rivals far behind. Chestnut’s total fell short of his personal best of 76 but was more than enough to secure his 17th Mustard Belt in 20 appearances.
He outpaced runner-up Patrick Bertoletti, who managed 46½ hot dogs, and third-place finisher James Webb, who finished with 45½. The crowd erupted in chants of “Joey, Joey, Joey!” as Chestnut powered through the final minutes of the contest, showcasing the stamina and focus that have defined his dominance in the sport.
Following the win, Chestnut expressed some frustration with not surpassing his record but assured fans he’s not done yet, promising to return and possibly chase another milestone next year.
In the women’s division, Miki Sudo maintained her dominance by securing her 11th title with a total of 33 hot dogs and buns, reinforcing her reputation as the top female competitor in the event’s history.
The Fourth of July tradition drew thousands of spectators and reaffirmed Chestnut’s place at the top of the competitive eating world. His return added energy to the event and reminded fans why he’s still considered the sport’s undisputed champion.
