Spencer Wimmer, a former supervisor at Generac Power Systems in Wisconsin, is appealing to the Trump administration after being fired for refusing to use a transgender colleague’s preferred pronouns, citing religious convictions.
Wimmer, a practicing Christian, had worked at the company for five years with a clean record and several promotions. He claims his refusal to use specific pronouns stems from his belief in a binary view of gender aligned with his faith. Despite what he described as a respectful relationship with his colleague, the matter escalated when Human Resources intervened and issued a warning for what was deemed unprofessional behavior.
According to Wimmer, he was terminated on April 2 after a month of increased pressure surrounding his stance. He has since filed a religious discrimination complaint with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, supported by a legal advocacy group arguing his dismissal violates Title VII protections under federal law.
Wimmer says he hopes his case will spark broader support for religious freedom in the workplace and bring attention to how diversity policies are applied. The company has not released a public statement regarding the incident.
