Mayor Freddie O’Connell has defended his decision to publish the names of ICE agents involved in local enforcement activity, dismissing concerns that the move endangers their safety. The names were included in data released under his Executive Order 30, which mandates transparency around federal immigration contacts—but were removed only after national criticism and security warnings.
O’Connell stated the release was unintentional and that the names were already public through emergency communication records, thus posing no new risk. He emphasized a broader concern about masked federal agents conducting unmarked operations in the city.
ICE officials and the Department of Homeland Security have strongly objected, warning the naming practice could expose agents and their families to threats and potentially aid criminal organizations. DHS has launched an investigation into whether the disclosure obstructs federal enforcement, and two Congressional committees are reviewing the actions tied to Executive Order 30.
