Hey, all you anti-Trumpers and Anti-Border wall folks… do you still think it won’t work? Well.. Hungary has proven it works. Their powerful border fences have cut illegal immigration by 99%.
In fact, The United Nations is trying to slam Hungary because their wall is, in fact, working so well.
According to the Hungarian Government website, the fences have caused illegal immigration to collapse from 391,000 in 2015, to 18,236 in 2016, to just 1,184 in 2017.
“The measures introduced in the interests of protecting the border continue to be necessary; it is thanks to these that the number of migrants entering Hungary illegally and in an uncontrolled manner has fallen drastically, Government Spokesperson Zoltán Kovács declared at a press conference on Friday at the border crossing station in Röszke.
“There is continuous migration pressure on our borders; without the measures that are still in place today, the situation would be much worse”, the Government Spokesperson said.
“The number of successful attempts to illegally cross the border fell from 391 thousand in 2015 to 18,236 in 2016 and only 1,184 in 2017. In addition to the closure of the Balkan migration route and the agreement between the EU and Turkey, this trend is primarily the result of successfully Hungarian border security”, Mr. Bakondi stressed.
And Breitbart reported that Hungary had to respond rapidly to the migrant influx which burst upon Europe after Germany’s Angela Merkel announced there was “no limit” on the number of asylum seekers her own country would accept, so its frontiers are defended by twin fences peppered with watchtowers and patrolled by thousands of newly recruited border guards rather than a solid wall — which would have taken longer to construct.
For example, UN Refugee Agency chief Filippo Grandi visited the border and complained: “When I was standing at the border fence today, I felt the entire system is designed to keep people, many of whom are fleeing war and persecution, out of the country”.
