Actress Alicia Silverstone stated this past week that she “still” sleeps with her son Bear, who is now 11 years old, while making statements to highlight that she’s a “natural mama” and a “loving mama.”
The actress is most well known for being in “Clueless,” has managed to make headlines due to some of her parenting stances and even joked that her now ex-husband and the father to her kid, musician Christopher Jarecki, at first dismissed her choices as “hippie s***,” but he has apparently since come around.
“Bear and I still sleep together,” stated Silverstone in a podcast hosted by Ellen Fisher. “And I’ll be in trouble for saying that, but I don’t care.”
Fisher highlighted that the non-“status quo” style of parenting from Silverstone has been the target of much criticism in the press, pointing to “co-sleeping” with her son bear.
“I’m a natural mama, and I’m a loving mama,” stated Silverstone. “I believe in love, I believe in nature. And our society is scared of nature and love.”
Silverstone highlighted that it is quite normal in our culture for a woman to ear string thong bikinis to the beach, but breastfeeding in a public place is not normal. “And I’m just like, what?!”
The actress, who is 45 years old, went on to question just why women are “sexualized” in almost all aspects of our society. “But we can’t gently feed our children with the thing that was made to feed them? Like, what is wrong with you?”
Both Fisher and Silverstone then took time to gush over motherhood in general. “I think that being a mom is the most unbelievable experience in this world … for me, it’s so divine,” stated the actress. “I wanted to savor every moment of [Bear’s] life.”
The actress who is also known for her role in “Batman & Robin” also told the show host that ideally, she would have more kids, more specifically two or three more, but has not had any more children due to the fact that she does not have a partner in the wake of her relationship getting “messed up.”
Throughout the podcast, Silverstone made it a point, in multiple instances, to highlight just how rarely she made use of diapers while potty-training Bear but instead chose to watch for “clues” from her child.
“It’s so awesome. It’s so easy,” she claimed. “When I was done feeding him, he would go to the bathroom in the toilet. When he woke up from a nap, he went to the bathroom.”
“There was a period of time where I was watching him naked and watching the cues,” Silverstone explained. “The cues part for me was really fun because I thought that he was flirting with me because he would do this little smile. That’s when he had to pee.”
Back in 2012, the same actress made headlines for her parenting online when she fed her then 10-month-old child food that she had chewed for them.
