During questioning from the FBI, Leland Keyser told investigators that Monica McLean contacted her and tried to get her to change her story to favor Ford. Monica McLean, you may remember is the one who is alleged to have taken lessons from Ford to pass a polygraph test.
Leland Kaiser, who was best friends with Ford earlier in life and who has said she believes Ford, but nonetheless, she has never met Kavanaugh and never attended a party that he was at. Obviously, Ford and McLean thought she would be willing to lie for an old friend. McLean’s lawyer claims Keyser is lying, but she gave the FBI the texts McLean sent her.
From The Conservative Firing Line
The Journal noted that Keyser’s statement to the FBI offered “a glimpse into how Dr. Ford’s allies were working behind the scenes to lobby old classmates to bolster their versions of the alleged incident.”
A source close to the situation told the Journal that Dr. Ford’s friends “including Ms. McLean, had contacted Ms. Keyser after her initial statement to warn her that her statement was being used by Republicans to rebut the allegation against Judge Kavanaugh.”
According to the Wall Street Journal report, Keyser’s attorney told the Judiciary committee in a letter that Keyser “…does not refute Dr. Ford’s account, and she has already told the press that she believes Dr. Ford’s account.”
However, the attorney added, “the simple and unchangeable truth is that she is unable to corroborate it because she has no recollection of the incident in question.”
McLean’s lawyer is now accusing Keyser of lying, saying his client never spoke with Keyser about her testimony. Why would Keyser lie? She says she believes Ford. Just because she refuses to commit perjury, doesn’t make her a liar. Just the opposite. Besides, she has the texts from McLean to prove it. The FBI also have copies.
