This past Wednesday, Rep. Mayra Flores (R-TX) went off on Democrats over their “bias toward conservative Latinas” in the wake of being reported that Flores, who holds the title of the first Mexican-born woman ever brought on to Congress, was officially outright denied acceptance into the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) due to being a Republican.
The CHC stated this past Wednesday that Flores was barred from joining mostly due to her being a Republican in the wake of Townhall first reporting about the main reason for the rejection based on sourcing.
“As the first Mexican-born American Congresswoman, I thought the Hispanic Caucus would be open in working together,” expressed the Republican in response to the report from Townhall via social media. “This denial once again proves a bias toward conservative Latinas that don’t fit their narrative or ideology.”

The Caucus has historically been made up of only Democrats who outright refuse to discuss accepting Republicans, such as Flores, explained the Texas Tribune. The CHC, highlighted in the report, was first founded back in 1976 and consisted of members from both sides of the aisle, but the group then fractured during the 1990s. Republicans departed from the CHC back in 2003 in order to establish the Congressional Hispanic Conference.
“In 2003, led by Rep. Diaz Balart, GOP Members split from the CHC to form the Congressional Hispanic Conference. Per our bylaws, the CHC is now for Democratic Members,” stated CHC spokesperson and communications director Sebastian Roa via a release.
Flores has been historically the express target of numerous attacks from Democrats, including a few based solely upon her Mexican heritage.
The Democrat that battled against Flores for her House seat in Texas, Rep. Vincente Gonzales (D-TX), hired a blogger that made reference to Flores as “Miss Frijoles,” “Cotton-pickin’ Liar,” and a series of other insane insults, as reported by NBC this past summer.
Gonzales issued a payment of $1,200 to the McHale Report Blog this past June for “advertising services.” in the wake of the payment, the blog has consistently, and viciously, gone after Flores, repeatedly calling her “Miss Frijoles” well over 20 times.
“My far left opponent, Vincent Gonzalez, hired a local blogger to run hateful & racist ads against me,” stated Flores via social media at that time. “But, I love frijoles & I grew up eating frijoles. I am not embarrassed of my upbringings & frijoles w/tortillas de harina is simply the best. Here’s to Miss Frijoles 2022.”
