Officials in Texas have released video showing a bystander pursuing a drunk driver who fled the scene of a fatal crash that took the life of a police officer who was off duty.
Video obtained by Fox 4 Dallas shows the aftermath of a November 2021 collision in which 26-year-old Dylan Molina crashed a rented Jeep into a white sedan at a busy intersection in Lake Worth, Texas, while under the influence of alcohol.
Alex Cervantes, an off-duty detective for the Euless Police Department, was driving the white sedan that crashed, killing him instantly and injuring his wife and two young sons.
Molina was caught on camera making a break for it before he tripped and was physically restrained by a man who had been yelling obscenities and warnings at him to stop.
“You don’t move a muscle, motherf—-er! Can’t you see what you’ve done?! “The Samaritan yells for help. “You motherf—-er, f—-ing killed somebody!”
In January, Molina admitted guilt and was sentenced to 15 years in prison for intoxication manslaughter.
Cala Richardson, a bartender in Molina’s hometown, was recently arrested in connection with the fatal crash and is being charged with a misdemeanor for allegedly overserving Molina.
According to KDFW-reporting, TV’s the Saturday morning before the crash, Richardson allegedly served Molina eight double vodka Red Bull cocktails, totaling 16 single shots.
“Nobody needs eight doubles and sixteen single shots in three hours. Or maybe not even that much, “Police Chief J.T. Manoushagian of Lake Worth, after reviewing footage from inside the bar, made the following statement.
“Obviously not a good time to be behind the wheel. Obviously under the influence. Another double vodka and Red Bull in hand, he just strolls away.”
Before colliding with Cervantes, Molina was reportedly involved in a minor accident while leaving the parking lot. Prior to the crash in November of 2021, he had been arrested for DWI but not charged. The previous DWI conviction was a contributing factor in Molina’s 15-year sentence.
Detective Cervantes’s wife, said on KDFW-TV, “It’s not going to bring Alex back, but at least he’s tied inside bars and just not able to hurt some other family as he did ours.”
