Via a letter issued to the members of Congress, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) finally spoke out about the violent assault carried out against her husband Paul Pelosi this past week, stating that she was “heartbroken” about the ordeal.
This past Friday morning, Paul Pelosi was sent to the hospital in the wake of an assailant breaking into their house out in San Francisco and assaulting the 82-year-old businessman with a hammer while allegedly searching for the legislator, explained reports.
The 42-year-old suspect, David DePape, had broken into the west coast home in the early morning hours on Friday, shouting demands to see the high-ranking legislator, who was out of town at that time, as reported by Police. Paul Pelosi, age 82, explained to the intruder that he needed to use the bathroom, where he issued a call to 911 emergency services, speaking in “code” to the dispatcher in order to get help.
Once police made it to the townhome of the lawmaker situated in the high-end Pacific Heights, they spotted the two men fighting over control of a hammer, which the suspect had taken and used to beat his victim all over both the head and body. Later that same day, Paul Pelosi was rushed into surgery to correct a fractured skull and many other injuries but is still expected to recover.
“Yesterday morning, a violent man broke into our family home, demanded to confront me and brutally attacked my husband Paul. Our children, our grandchildren and I are heartbroken and traumatized by the life-threatening attack on our Pop. We are grateful for the quick response of law enforcement and emergency services, and for the life-saving medical care he is receiving,” explained Nancy Pelosi via the letter which was sent out Saturday to all members of Congress.
“Please know that the outpouring of prayers and warm wishes from so many in the Congress is a comfort to our family and is helping Paul make progress with his recovery. His condition continues to improve,” Pelosi wrote. “We are also comforted by the words of the Book of Isaiah: ‘Do not fear, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.’”
“We thank you and pray for the continued safety and well-being of your family,” she stated.
