According to Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who is running against President Joe Biden in the Democratic primary, he is unable to create an official Instagram account for his campaign because Instagram is owned by Facebook.
RFK Jr. mentioned in a tweet that his campaign account is being blocked whenever they try to create one.
The Democratic contender announced on Twitter that anyone using a Team Kennedy email address to sign up for Instagram will be banned for 180 days. Is there any way to explain this phenomenon?
“It is highly undemocratic to try to stifle a significant political candidate. The town square has been replaced by social media. The question is how democracy can work if only some candidates have access to it.
At the height of the coronavirus panic in February 2021, RFK Jr.’s personal Instagram account was banned from the network for “repeatedly sharing debunked claims about the coronavirus or vaccines,” as stated in a statement released by Facebook (now known as Meta).
Another tweet from the Democratic candidate thanked Twitter founder and CEO Elon Musk for giving them a platform to “have a voice.”
Musk responded by suggesting they have a conversation on Twitter’s Spaces live audio streaming tool.
In recent years, RFK Jr., the nephew of the 35th President, John F. Kennedy, has gained notoriety for questioning conventional wisdom in regards to the coronavirus and vaccinations.
Kennedy criticized the establishment’s embrace of censorship in an exclusive interview with Breitbart News last month, saying, “We’re now in this situation where, without free speech, democracy just withers and dies.”
“Free speech is the fertilizer; it is the sunlight; it is the water for democracy,” he continued. Censors of free speech have never been on the side of good in any era.
If elected, Kennedy, an economic populist who is also a skeptic of open borders, will implement tariffs to safeguard American workers.
The Democratic nominee has also criticized China’s rising influence in the American economy, specifically the communist country’s purchase of farms all over the country.
Facebook has been contacted by Breitbart News for comment.
