The shooter at the Nashville Christian school is said to have killed three children, one of whom was a nine-year-old girl. She was shot while allegedly trying to stop the killing by pulling on a fire alarm.
Eleanor Dieckhaus is in the fifth grade and will soon be baptized. On Monday night, Woodmont Christian Church held a funeral service in her honor.
When Eleanor said, “I don’t want to be an only child,” it made many people cry.
The Dieckhaus family, who sends their children to the Covenant School (a pre-K through sixth-grade school connected to the Covenant Presbyterian Church), released a statement about how heartbroken they were about the unimaginable loss.
The family said, “We can’t believe this has happened. Evelyn was a bright star in a dark world. We appreciate all the love and support, but we need time alone to mourn.”
Evelyn is a “cute” kid, according to an online obituary made by a local woman who taught both Dieckhaus girls Sunday school at Woodmont Christian Church.
In an online remembrance, Sarah Drury, a Sunday school teacher at Nashville’s Woodmont Christ Church, said that one of the nine-year-olds who died in the school killing goes to her church. “Her name is Evelyn Dieckhaus, and she was so cute. I taught her older sister in Sunday school, and she was just as cute.”
Katy, her mother, and the rest of her family are all great people. Katy helped out with our program for kids. The whole city is sad, and tonight there was a prayer service at our church. Now is the time to bring our sadness and prayers together.
The killing “broke” the Covenant School, as they put it.
In a statement, the school said, “We have lost so much and are still in shock from the evil that tore our school and church apart. We are focused on loving our students, their families, our teachers, and starting the recovery process.”
The shooter was a 28-year-old transgender woman who was shot by officers who stormed the school and found her on the second floor. The Daily Wire won’t name the shooter because their policy is meant to keep mass murderers from getting the attention they so desperately want.
