President Biden has stated that he will decide by the beginning of 2019 whether or not to run for president.
President Joe Biden said on Saturday that he and his family are “not having any” discussions about a possible presidential candidacy in 2024 as he spends the Thanksgiving holiday weekend in Nantucket, Massachusetts.
Reporters approached President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden as they crossed a street on their island vacation and inquired how discussions about potential re-election were going.
“You won’t find any of that here. There is a party going on, “In response, the president said something.
During a news conference after the election earlier this month, Biden said he plans to run for re-election but would not commit to doing so until early next year.
We’re going to have debates about it, but I think everybody wants me to run,” Biden remarked. I’m hoping Jill and I can take a week off between Thanksgiving and Christmas, but we probably won’t decide on a destination until early next year.
In recent months, the White House has underlined Biden’s “intentions” to run for re-election but has made no firm commitment one way or the other. This month Biden turned 80, making him the oldest president in American history.
Even among Democrats, questions have been raised regarding whether or not Biden would run in 2024 because of his age, his low support ratings, and the possibility of a Republican challenger. This month, though, he received a significant boost when the widely projected Republican “red wave” in the midterm elections did not materialize. By a razor-thin margin, the Republicans have taken control of the House, while the Democrats have maintained their hold on the Senate.
Earlier this week, California Governor Gavin Newsom told Politico that he is “all in” for Joe Biden’s re-election campaign, putting an end to rumors that he may run as a primary rival to Biden.
The Bidens’ accommodations are located on Nantucket Harbor’s waterfront. The Biden family trip includes both Ashley and Hunter. The family has been making trips to the island every Thanksgiving for almost 40 years.
