West Virginia’s Republican governor, Jim Justice, stated on Tuesday that he is “seriously exploring” challenging Democratic senator Joe Manchin in the upcoming 2024 U.S. senate race.
At a briefing, this week about the COVID-19 pandemic, Justice disclosed this information.
The memo from Justice read, “I have not made a final judgment yet.” Whatever else I may accomplish as governor over the next two years, I promise you this: I will be your governor.
We won’t be engaging in meaningless chatter. I don’t place much stock in it. I’m going to be your leader. “And so on, he went on. The incredible people of West Virginia will always have my back, no matter what. They have no question in their minds that I will be there to support them. This gives me confidence that they will help me.
The senator stated that he is “thinking about, planning for, and discussing with his family” whether or not to seek re-election and that his constituents will “know real soon” if he decides to run.
A report from Townhall last week indicated that Republican Representative Alex Mooney (R-WV) is seeking the party’s 2024 Senate candidacy.
West Virginians are concerned that the rest of the country threatens their values. We are destroying the economy of the United States. “I want to be a part of the solution there,” Mooney said on MetroNews’ “Talkline.”
“I am officially running for the United States Senate for the seat that is up in two years that Joe Manchin presently is in, and I’m all in,” he said, adding that he was “not content with the U.S. Senate outcomes” from the midterm elections.
Mooney declared, “Manchin is a liberal Democrat, and I don’t think West Virginia needs that anymore. In two years, it’s crucial for the Republican Party to win back West Virginia’s lone congressional seat.”
In an AP interview, Mooney predicted, “I think I’ll defeat him.” about Manchin.
Mooney described him as someone who had “been around for a long time, known a lot of people, and had a lot of money.” I’m telling everyone, even Joe Manchin, where I stand.
Patrick Morrisey, the current attorney general of West Virginia, recently intimated to his supporters in a letter that he is considering a run for higher office. He would not definitively state whether he was seeking the governorship or the U.S. House of Representatives.
To Fox News, Morrisey said, “I wanted to tell a lot of my followers that I’m going through a process.” I’m giving it a lot of thought, and I’m considering a run for governor and the Senate.
A statement along the lines of “We’re going to do this right, so we’re going to take our time, listen to what people have to say, and proceed methodically. We have the finest record of conservative victories of any potential candidate. Therefore I do not doubt that we will win the West Virginia primary. I felt it was essential to inform many of our voters of that fact after the election. “His words carried on.
Fox News claims that Manchin has not yet determined whether or not he will run for re-election in 2024.
I have never, however, choose a candidate based on who was running against them or who had openly declared their opposition to them. As he put it, “The opinions of others have never swayed my decision-making.
