Thursday signified the conclusion of Title 42’s border policy, bringing forth a new dynamic.
Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat, directed his frustration towards Vice President Biden on Thursday following the revocation of Trump’s Title 42 border measure.
Title 42, implemented in 2020 to halt the transmission of COVID-19, resulted in the expulsion of migrants at the U.S.-Mexico border. However, with the expiration of the policy on May 11, as the pandemic ceased being a national emergency, the potential for a surge of migrants entering the country loomed large.
During an episode of “Cats Roundtable” on WABC 770 AM, Cuomo unleashed his criticism on Biden for what he perceived as a lack of preparedness, deeming the situation “extremely mismanaged.”
Cuomo remarked, “Cities across the nation are being overwhelmed by this issue.” A grave crisis is unraveling at the southern border, and the situation is expected to deteriorate before any improvement is seen.
He specifically singled out Vice President Biden, attributing the escalating numbers to his lack of strategy in response to the expiration of Title 42 and blaming his endorsement of eliminating the border policy.
The former governor shared accounts of encountering migrants in New York City who had embarked on a three-month journey from El Salvador upon hearing of President Biden’s plans to open the border.
Regarding the individuals being let in, Cuomo stated, “There was no plan for them.” It was an open invitation to everyone! However, where will they be accommodated? What about the associated costs?
Furthermore, Cuomo acknowledged that the previously implemented border policy under former President Trump had resulted in a more controlled border, with Title 42 being the primary barrier preventing a flood of migrants. He continued his tirade by expressing concern over the challenges faced by New York City Mayor Eric Adams due to the increasing number of migrants residing there.
Despite immigration falling outside the mayor’s jurisdiction, Cuomo found it peculiar that Adams was deeply involved in the affairs of New York City and the administration of Eric Adams. The responsibility to address this matter lies with Vice President Biden and Governor Hochul. Cuomo stressed that it was not Adams’ duty. However, he believed that Mayor Adams should exert more pressure to hold the state accountable.
Back in February, on his weekly podcast, Cuomo criticized Biden for a “mistake” in not having a comprehensive plan to address the border situation.
Cuomo expressed, “Opening the border without a well-thought-out plan to handle the substantial influx of people was a mistake.” While campaign promises are typical in politics, government officials and other professionals must consider the repercussions of fulfilling such pledges.
Cuomo argued that the crisis could be resolved by enacting new legislation at both the federal and state levels to effectively manage the border, regardless of the decisions made by Biden and Adams in the future.
When confronted with the enormity of the challenge, Cuomo responded, “We’re not trying to solve an intricate problem overnight,” aligning his sentiments with a collective perspective.
In recent times, Cuomo has emerged as a vocal opponent of the far-left agenda within the Democratic Party, primarily focusing on what he perceives as their lack of concern for rising crime rates.
“Have you taken into account the demographics of crime victims?” Cuomo questioned back in April. More than two-thirds of the affected population consists of African-Americans or Latinos living in poverty. Thus, who does the Democratic Party genuinely represent if not people of color and the socioeconomically disadvantaged? The burdens of crime are paid by the black, brown, and poor individuals when society turns a blind eye to the issue. They are the ones bearing the consequences of extreme liberalism.
