On MSNBC’s “The Beat” on Friday, reporter Stephanie Ruhle gave a sneak peek of her conversation with President Joe Biden. In it, the president said that Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) had “sold everything” to the “far, far right.”
Ruhle asked, “Is Kevin McCarthy a trustworthy person with whom you can talk?”
Biden said, “I think he is a good person. I still think he has a chance, though. He had to come up with a deal that was pretty good, like 15 points. Fifteen votes where he almost gave away everything he had, which was very, very far to the right. There is the Republican Party and the MAGA Republicans. The MAGA Republicans have really put him in a situation where he has to agree with them if he wants to keep his job as speaker. He has agreed to things that he may believe in, but that are just extreme.
Ruhle asked, “Given their power, is there anything you think you can do in the next two years that both parties can agree on?”
Biden said, “The answer is yes, if I get a chance to get votes. “They must vote.
Ruhle said about the talk with host Ari Melber, “He did say that he wouldn’t rule out using the 14th Amendment, which basically means that we would go over the debt ceiling and they would keep going.” That is important.”
