On Tuesday, President Biden revealed to President Andrzej Duda of Poland that, as a kid, he often wished he could add “ski” to his name because of the large number of Polish people living in Delaware.
Biden is in Poland to commemorate the first commemoration of the outbreak of war in Ukraine, and the joke was made during a state visit with Duda at the Presidential Palace in Warsaw.
“Scranton, Pennsylvania (a coal mining town) is where I entered the world. When the coal industry collapsed, we relocated to the town of Claymont, where nearly everyone spoke Polish or Italian at home “according to the Daily Mail, Biden said. My insecurities about my name’s lack of a “ski” or “o” ending stemmed from my childhood.
Therefore, his last name would be Bidenski or Bideno.
In response to Duda’s praise of Biden’s “spectacular” visit to Ukraine, Biden expressed his respect for the Polish leader.
Putting jests aside, Biden spoke of the “immense demonstrable pride” that Polish Americans feel toward Poland and the role it is playing in the world today.
Roughly 1.8 million Ukrainians have found refuge in Poland. During the beginning of the war in March of last year, Biden also gave a speech in Warsaw.
