Republicans have said that Hunter, Jim, and Hallie Biden got a lot of money from one of Hunter’s business partners.
Hunter Biden’s business partner Rob Walker and their Chinese business gave the President and his family more than $1 million in 2017. V.P. Biden has always denied getting any of that money.
Republicans on the House Oversight Committee found bank records on Thursday that show the president’s brother Hunter Biden and Beau Biden’s widow Hallie Biden got money from Hunter’s business partner Rob Walker and their joint venture with the Chinese energy company CEFC. Hunter Biden’s lawyer said Thursday that the accounts “belonged to Hunter, his uncle, and Hallie, and no one else.”
On Friday, though, a reporter on the White House grounds asked Biden directly about these payments, and the president flatly denied that they had been made.
When told about what the Republican lawmakers had found, the president said, “That’s not right.”
Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Kentucky) told Bank of America to find records to show that this was not true.
Documents show that on March 1, 2017, State Energy HK Limited, another Chinese company, sent $3 million to Robinson Walker, LLC. This happened a little more than two months after President Joe Biden left his job.
The official report from the committee says, “The next day, on February 2, Robinson Walker, LLC sent $1,065,000 to European Energy and Infrastructure Group in Abu Dhabi. This business is linked to James Gilliar.”
Hunter Biden was with Gillian when he went on business trips abroad.
After State Energy HK Limited put $3,000,000 into the account of Robinson Walker, LLC, Robinson Walker, LLC began giving the money to the Biden family and their businesses “in small amounts over about three months.” Money was sent to Hallie Biden, businesses linked to Hunter and James Biden, and a bank account with the name “Biden” that no one could find.
Some Republicans have said they want to know if Joe and Jill Biden made more money because Joe was vpresident.
In a statement, the White House didn’t disagree with the findings, but it was very critical of the committee’s investigation into the Bidens.
Ian Sams, a spokesman for the White House, said that Congressman Comer is going after Beau Biden’s wife “after a nasty attack in which he complained that the President’s dead son Beau was never charged when he was alive.” Sams brought up a comment that Comer made earlier this month about the money that Beau Biden’s estate gave to charity.
Sams says that instead of making “bizarre attacks” on the President’s family, House Republicans would do better to work with the President to reach “vital goals” for the American people, like lowering costs and making health care better.
Hunter Biden did get money, but his lawyers say that Republicans are making up a “false right-wing conspiracy theory.”
“Hunter Biden has the right, as an individual, to work toward his own financial goals. He worked with other business people to try to start a partnership with a private, well-known energy company in China “A spokesperson had said. Hunter “got his share of good faith seed money,” which he split with his uncle, James Biden, and Hallie Biden, with whom he was friends at the time, and used to pay for “that collaborative project.”
