At the White House Correspondents’ dinner, Joe Biden displayed his comedic chops by making fun of Marjorie Taylor Greene, Tucker Carlson, and even Donald Trump.
Jokes were made by the chief of state as he discussed press freedom and the recent arrests of journalists including Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich and WNBA star Britney Griner.
Griner was spotted in the Washington Hilton auditorium where the president gave a speech, along with other celebrities. Biden encouraged Griner to get up during his address, and the audience enthusiastically applauded.
After all of that was said, however, the 80-year-old Biden took the opportunity to joke around with his conservative colleagues. He managed to pull it off without any missteps that would have ruined his timing.
Don Lemon and Gov. Ron DeSantis were also targeted in the backlash against the former Fox News host and the Georgia Firebrand. All eyes were on Lemon after he made controversial remarks about women over the age of 40, in which he implied that they were no longer ‘in their prime.’
Vice President Biden set the tone by joking that he was the oldest sitting president. He did it to tease a fellow progressive and mock him.
Say, “I’m old? ‘You say I’m elderly,’ he said, ‘but I call it being well-seasoned. I consider myself to be rather savvy. I’m too old, you say. “That’s a man at the height of his powers,” Don Lemon would remark.
The Democrat who was let go from CNN last week after 17 years was the target of the jab. He had warned his female employees live on air two months prior that Republican candidate Nikki Haley, then aged 51, should tread carefully if she continued to advocate for requiring politicians over the age of 65 to pass a competence test.
In response to Poppy Harlow and Kaitlan Collins’s anger, he said, “a woman is in her prime in her 20s, 30s, and maybe 40s.”
Collins was one of the hundreds in attendance who applauded and complimented the president for the duration of his brief set. The majority of the other verbal insults were directed against Republicans.
When asked why Fox News was present, the president said, “they can’t afford to say no to a free meal.” The agreement between Fox News and Dominion Voting Systems was worth $787 million, which was the subject of his remarks.
After the shocking payment was announced early last week, Biden said, “I used to say that Fox News was fair, honest, and telling the truth, but then I was sued for defamation.” Fox News had said it would fight the defamation claim in court.
Fox News staffers, including father-and-son Fox & Friends anchors Steve and Peter Doocy, seemed to enjoy the humor and join in with the audience.
Before shifting his attention to another Fox personality, Biden poked fun at his own age and took an obvious dig at Fox’s parent company owner, 93-year-old Rupert Murdoch.
In his brief address, Biden admitted, “I get that age is a fair issue.”It’s on everyone’s mind right now. “Everyone,” in this case, refers to the New York Times.
He once stated this about the current FoxCo owner: “I like Rupert Murdoch.” A person who makes me appear like Harry Styles is impossible to dislike.
