Washington is a very blue state, but new polls show that Republicans may be able to win back the Senate seat that they last had in 2001, despite the fact that Democrats have thrown millions of dollars into the election.
Senate Majority Leader Pat Murray, a Democrat, is running for reelection against political novice and Republican Tiffany Smiley.
A total of nearly $17 million has been spent on this election by Murray’s campaign, according to the Seattle Times, while over $10 million has been spent by Smiley’s.
On Monday, a survey was released by Citizens United, a conservative advocacy group, indicating a 6-point margin of victory for Murray over Smiley.
Politico reported that Citizens United president David Bossie said the election “should not be a fight” because Murray received 59% of the vote in 2016. President Biden received 58% of the vote in 2020.
As far as I can tell, Washington state does not qualify as a “purple” state. It’s not a state on the fringes. The state is a very dark blue. He warned the Democrats that even having this discussion was a bad sign.
The Democratic Senatorial Race Committee reportedly spent $1.5 million on commercials for Murray’s campaign. The pro-abortion Super PAC EMILY’s List has allegedly given her a total of $6.5 million in recent days, with the majority of the money going into television ads supporting her candidacy.
Benjamin Ray, a spokesperson for EMILY’s List, told the outlet that Democratic Senator Patty Murray is “a trailblazer and a fighter for women’s choice to govern their own bodies” in light of the Republican threat of a nationwide abortion ban.
The National Republican Senatorial Committee has reportedly invested $750,000 in the nation’s capital.
Hartline: “Tiffany Smiley is conducting a fantastic campaign, and she has 30-year incumbent Patty Murray, and national Democrats are running frightened.”
During a discussion on Sunday night, Smiley criticized Murray, citing Murray’s 30-year political career for the myriad problems that have afflicted the state and the country.
It was reported in The Seattle Times that Smiley blamed Patty Murray for the city’s crime problem. Senator Murray and Vice President Biden “have displayed extraordinary weakness on the international stage” due to their handling of the conflict in Ukraine, as one commentator put it.
On the debate stage, Smiley went even further, saying that China is able to get “components of fentanyl through” because of the Southern border problem that Murray and the D.C. elite manufactured.
The Republican nominee said that Murray should denounce her campaign’s “dangerous language that has spent millions of dollars to target and depict her” as a threat to democracy, despite the fact that left-wing money was used to support negative attacks against Smiley.
According to a survey released by the Seattle Times last week, Murray is gaining less support and more for Smiley in the Pacific Northwest state.
A recent survey by SurveyUSA for The Seattle Times found that Murray is preferred by voters by eight percentage points over Smiley, who is supported by 41% of respondents. Murray polled 51% in July and 52% in the primary, respectively.
However, Smiley’s popularity increased dramatically over the same time period, going from 33% to 41%. Additionally, Smiley received 50% of the vote among independents, whereas Murray only received 34%.
