According to reports, Haitian immigrants may be briefly detained in a third nation or a facility at the U.S. jail in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
Two U.S. officials have told NBC News they have a paper detailing preparations for an impending wave of Haitian migrants. The White House’s National Security Council reportedly questioned DHS about the threshold at which the United States would have to name the third nation to detain and process migrants. If a large number of immigrants arrive in the so-called “lily pad country,” then Haitians will have to be shipped to Guantanamo.
Migrant Operations Center detainees at Guantanamo Bay include people from other countries who were picked up by the Coast Guard in the Caribbean. It is not a component of the prison housing terrorism suspects, as NBC noted.
The U.S. “remains dedicated to aiding the people of Haiti,” a National Security Council official told NBC, adding that the administration “always performs contingency planning out of an abundance of caution, and for a wide variety of conceivable situations.” These migration-related possibilities have been there even before the time of the Biden-Harris administration.
A DHS representative stated, “the department continues to closely watch the situation in Haiti, and there are longstanding contingency measures available in the event of a spike in sea migration.”
Rep. Greg Steube (R) of Florida claimed as much in an appearance on “Fox & Friends First,” claiming that the Biden administration is devising these regulations to maintain an open border.
In the interview, he stated, “I don’t understand why this government just can’t follow current law and protect our border and return these folks to their host nations.”
He said, “Haiti is totally sinking into pandemonium.” Their leader was assassinated. Street gangs have become the dominant force. Yet another tremor. An additional tropical storm. And I was just talking to the Coast Guard’s vice admiral. The number of those who have been caught trying to leave by boat has increased by a factor of three.
The assassination of Haitian president Jovenal Moise was reported in July 2021 by Townhall. According to reports, a gang of Colombian nationals was responsible for his death.
Eric Jean Baptiste, head of a major political party in Haiti, was killed in what is being called a gang attack last week. According to The Washington Post, a party official remarked, “his assassination indicates we do not have leadership in this country.” Former senator of Haiti Yvon Buissereth was murdered by gangs in August.
In Del Rio, Texas, close to the U.S.-Mexico border, last year, ten thousand illegal immigrants, most of them from Haiti, were crammed under a bridge. Many left-leaning media sites falsely reported that the United States was doing nothing while the migrants crossed the border illegally. Horse-mounted Border Patrol agents were seen lashing the migrants.
In truth, the spies riding on the horses were controlling them. To prevent migrants from being crushed to death, a Border Patrol source told Townhall that agents turn their reins when they come too close.
Immigrants, agents, and horses can all be injured if the agent loses control of the horse and the animal runs amok. “Agents use their reins for a lot of reasons. Primarily it’s used to steer the horse, but agents will also spin them sometimes to deter people from getting too close to the horse.”
Brandon Judd, president of the National Border Patrol Council, recently told Townhall that his organization “does not strike individuals” with reins.
He said, “Of course, that’s not going to be the narrative,” noting that none of the images depicted anyone being struck by the reins.
Leah reported on how, months later, the Biden administration had said the Haitian migrants may be deported but then let significant numbers of them into the United States.
