Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS) denied using misleading editing techniques while leading the House Select Committee on January 6.
Fox News anchor Tucker Carlson presented previously unreleased footage of the January 6, 2021 riot on Capitol Hill on Monday, which appeared to offer a different picture from the one described by former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).
The footage he displayed during his program directly contradicted claims made by the January 6 committee, which said the rioters were part of an “insurrection.”
A particularly unsettling clip appears to show police officers casually escorting “Qanon Shaman” Jacob Chansley through the Capitol. In a report from Breitbart News:
Carlson mentioned Congressional footage, some of which appeared to address the circumstances surrounding the murder of U.S. Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick. Carlson claimed the film was examined by members of the January 6 Committee, who refused to release it to the public, and indicates Sicknick was alive after he was reportedly slain by individuals at the Capitol.
The U.S. Capitol Police agreed with the 2021 conclusion of the D.C. Medical Examiner’s office that Officer Sicnick died of natural causes.
The tape also recorded the movements of persons inside the Capitol on January 6, including the self-proclaimed “QAnon Shaman,” Jacob Chansley. Some of the individuals that entered the Capitol that day, according to Carlson, were “hooligans” and engaged in destruction, while other people who were there did not. Carlson presented surveillance footage showing Chansley unimpededly walking near Congressional cops.
When Kerry Picket of the Washington Times asked Thompson if the committee had misleadingly manipulated the film, Thompson denied it and said that he had never heard of Jacob Chansley, or “QAnon Shaman.”
‘I don’t know who he is,’ Thompson said to the media.
In addition, Thompson said it was “not accurate” that the group he led manipulated surveillance footage to promote an “insurrection” narrative.
The January 6 Committee also claimed that Republican Senator Josh Hawley of Mississippi had fled the chamber in fear when the rioting broke out, but The tapes proved that Hawley was the last legislator to be removed from the building.
I believe the tape,” Thompson vowed to Picket.
According to a story by Breitbart News from last year, the January 6 Committee fraudulently manipulated a video to make it look like former President Donald Trump encouraged the rioters.
According to the report, the committee “played Trump’s comments” — which related to his peaceful event, more than a mile away — over pictures of conflicts between protesters and police. The folks that lived there were known for their calm demeanor. Trump was overheard stating, “They were fantastic folks.”
The state that Thompson represents, Mississippi, is now correct.
