Wednesday on MSNBC’s “The ReidOut,” Sojourners founder Jim Wallis said that Republicans “worship” firearms and “literally sacrifice all our children.”
Wallis said, “Here is a moral fact: right now, guns are the top source of death for our children and adolescents. The moral implication of this truth is that we are failing to adequately safeguard future generations. We would take care of it if it were a website or poisonous food or some website, but the Republicans say we can’t do anything about it.
The ancient deity Moloch, he added, “was known as…” Moloch, a deity in Leviticus to whom children were burned at the stake, received a severe condemnation from the Bible. Our reliance on firearms has replaced the worship of Moloch. When we could be doing simple, common-sense things to protect our kids, instead we sacrifice them to the Moloch of guns.
As Wallis put it, “This is anti-Christ, this is anti-Gospel and anti-Christ. We are, therefore, up against a form of fake devotion. We can’t ignore it or avoid it publicly; we must also address it theologically.
Joy Reid, the show’s host, agreed.
Walis drew the following conclusion: “Politicians can do something if they really want to. They are sacrificing our children to some fake deity that they venerate, and that is what is driving all of this.
