Van Jones, a frequent on CNN, got some reaction after he said that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg would be smart to back down and not indict former President Donald Trump, or at least wait to see if he would be charged in Georgia first.
Jones said this on Monday at a panel discussion led by Pamela Brown. He said that the fact that liberals are pressing for an indictment over “hush money” reportedly given to a porn star shows that they are not ready to go after Trump.
“If you’re a Republican and you were worried about a well-organized plot by progressives, you can relax now,” Jones said. “You wouldn’t start with this charge. You’d start with the charge in Georgia that he was messing with elections.” You would start by saying that he helped the rebels put together a coup. You wouldn’t begin with a payout of an 8-year-old porn star. This shows that the progressives are not very well organized if nothing else. You wouldn’t start with this one.”
Jones went on to say that he was sure Bragg was under more and more pressure to do something, but that the best thing for him to do would be to slow down and let Georgia try it first.
“This DA is in the hot seat. Jones added, “I think he’ll make a very sensible choice, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t pull back from the edge.”
“I don’t think that’s the way to go. Trump will not be judged by history based on what Stormy Daniels says. “It’s going to judge him based on the election, based on the coup attempt, based on the uprising,” Jones insisted. “If I were Alvin, I think I would wait till Georgia went first. The president is trying to alter the election by dialing in. I think it should be the first thing, not this.”
Critics attacked Jones as soon as he said what he thought.
“Van Jones is not a serious guy and shouldn’t be taken seriously. “A corn cob with feelings,” tweeted lawyer Xavier Pope.
“I just heard Van Jones on CNN tell Alvin Bragg, ‘I’d step aside and let Georgia go first.’ He then said that he wouldn’t be shocked if Alvin Bragg did the same. Feel bad, Van. Be sorry,” stated Jack Hopkins.
Molly Jong-Fast stated, “Back on Earth, this is not how any of this works.”
