In a bold stance against sexist comments targeting her appearance, Lizzo, the renowned pop sensation, took to social media on Wednesday. As a devoted supporter of Joe Biden, she confronted the “fatphobic remarks” that she claims to face regularly.
Lizzo, a Grammy-winning artist and popular singer, rose to fame with hit singles like “Juice” and “Truth Hurts” from her third album, Cuz I Love You. Expressing her frustration, she stated, “It’s starting to breed contempt within me for the world.”
The talented rapper, Lizzo, once candidly proclaimed, “I’m teetering on the edge of abandoning everyone, enjoying my wealth and my partner on a serene farm.”
Further discussing her previous statements, as reported by Urban Hollywood, she clarified, “I don’t aspire to be overweight nor do I have any desire to shrink myself. My sole focus is on staying healthy and alive. Despite strictly following a diet and maintaining a regular gym routine, this is how my body looks.” Lizzo added, “‘All of you discuss matters you have zero expertise in.”
Shortly after, Lizzo switched her Twitter account to “protected” mode, making it visible only to her existing followers.
Her response came in reaction to a tweet by Layah Heilpern, a novelist and podcaster, who shared a video of Lizzo performing on stage. In the video, Lizzo wore a dazzling green gown but discarded the skirt while dancing and singing.
Heilpern captioned the photo, saying, “How is Lizzo still THIS overweight when she’s constantly moving like this on stage?! What could she possibly be eating?”
According to Breitbart News, Lizzo, who campaigned for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in 2020, has previously expressed confidence in her own attractiveness.
In April, the singer, hailed as a “body icon,” treated her 13.4 million Instagram followers to a clip filmed in what appeared to be her bathroom.
Donning a gray robe with her hair and makeup in a natural, dewy state, Lizzo began the video by saying, “After my shower and my little routine, you know what struck me?” Throughout the selfie video, she maintained direct eye contact with the camera.
She confidently declared, “I am stunning,” emphasizing her physical appeal. The embodiment of beauty is personified by me.
As the phone slipped from her hand, the video transitioned to Lizzo rising up in her robe, ready to resume recording.
Having dubbed herself a “body icon” and a leader in the body positivity movement in a March interview last year, Lizzo continues to celebrate her own body.
Just like Kim Kardashian, she explained to PEOPLE, “I am a body icon who has redefined contemporary beauty standards,” even if it doesn’t align with a single person’s ideal body type.
Through this, I am asserting my independence and setting my own standards of attractiveness. One day, this will become the norm.
