A Canadian bank, TD Bank, secretly sent $500,000 to a clinic that performs “gender-affirming” surgery on kids earlier this year.
Services for “trans and genders varied adolescents” are offered by the McMaster Pediatric Gender Diversity Program at the McMaster Children’s Hospital in Hamilton, Ontario. The bank contributed $500,000 to Canada’s Children’s Hospital Foundations in May 2022 to support the initiative.
Sarah Colley, manager of community relations at TD Bank, has said that it is still crucial to pay attention to the emotional and physical well-being of young people. The TD Ready Commitment has made it possible for us to give to causes like the McMaster Pediatric Gender Diversity Program.
According to True North’s research, there is now no legally required age of consent for gender reassignment surgery.
The Canadian Mental Health Association has said that “there is no universal age of consent to treatment or counseling.” A proper inquiry should be “if the minor is capable of agreeing.”
Author and mental health nurse Aaron Kimberly, who identifies as transgender, writes in an opinion post for True North on the pressures transgender individuals face to transition.
One may assume that in light of the recent gender norm change, transgender students like me would have an easier time at school. Kimberly claimed that the misleading information she was exposed to led her to make the switch, despite the fact that I now feel more like herself as a result.
On its website, the program claims, “The purpose of this program is to provide medical and mental health treatments to trans and gender variant adolescents as part of a comprehensive program that also encompasses adolescent medicine and endocrinology.” Endocrinology is crucial since hormone therapies, such as puberty blockers and testosterone injections, for transgender persons are only available in this field.
Our “extensive medical advice and legal references” section may also come in handy when trying to legally change one’s name and/or gender marker on official documents.
TD Bank, which ranks among the top 10 banks in the United States, initiated the initiative. It is only now that the magnitude of the 2016 child transfer crisis has become apparent. In 2020, it was stated that the program was getting three to four referrals per week as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak.
This new funding might allow the organization to treat an extra 30 adolescents each year, bringing the total number of youngsters it aids to between 60 and 70.
About 150 young people have applied to these programs, and they anticipate a 24-month wait time.
Dr. Rosheen Grady, an adolescent medicine specialist at the children’s hospital, recounted in the hospital newsletter how she had met a parent whose child had been “drowning in agony” until the family found the program.
According to Grady, the child initially identified as a boy but had completed the program as a female.
According to Grady, “they understood they have a daughter now” after the session. Someone could tell you, “That’s a terrific thing to hear, and it may make your day,” or any variation of that.
Grady believes that assistance is necessary to help “gender-diverse” teenagers “be their healthiest selves.”
