The rate of illegal immigration reached its lowest point in 45 years upon Biden assuming office, as stated by Cruz to the media.
Republican Senator Ted Cruz engaged in a heated argument with a reporter at the border on Thursday, criticizing members of the media for echoing talking points in support of President Biden’s handling of the southern border issue.
Cruz vehemently refuted the claim that Republican senators are partially responsible for the ongoing influx of illegal immigrants, dismissing it as an “utter and complete lie.”
Reporter Derick Garcia questioned the Republican members present, asking, “Republican members here, what have you all done to help Joe Biden?” Cruz found the question to be “ridiculous and silly” and expressed his displeasure with being drawn into a debate. He told Garcia, “You posed the query. You may have your news conference over there if you want to!”
“Allow me to respond to his inquiry. The Democrats’ talking point is ‘God, the problem can’t be fixed,’ and this media reporter is only too happy to repeat it. However, there is a minor issue with that,” Cruz asserted, referring to it as “a total and complete fabrication.”
Cruz further added, “We had the lowest rate of illegal immigration in 45 years in 2020, the last year of the Trump presidency. What have I done, since you asked? I have advocated on behalf of border patrol agents. I have been a strong advocate for border security. Remaining in Mexico is a cause I’ve fought for. And we completely reversed the situation and resolved the issue.”
Vice President’s comments culminated with, “And we went from Joe Biden inheriting the lowest rate of illegal immigration in 45 years to, on the first day in office, making political decisions that caused this problem!”
Cruz rebuked the reporter, accusing him of not reporting facts. He went on to say that the reporter should be ashamed of himself for making things up.
According to Newsweek’s report on Friday, Trump’s “hardline immigration policies” led to the lowest number of border detentions since 1971 during his first year in office.
While at the border on Thursday, Cruz chastised President Biden, stating, “Joe Biden, this is your responsibility… You are responsible for the lives lost due to illegal border crossings. You are responsible for the sexual assaults committed on women who cross the border illegally. You are responsible for the brutality suffered by the children who cross the border illegally. Over 100,000 Americans lost their lives to drug overdoses last year; that’s on you.”
