Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) met with DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on Tuesday and harshly criticized him for the present catastrophe on the U.S. southern boundary, which he blamed on the Biden administration.
After admitting that the United States had the fewest run-ins with individuals at the southern border in 2020, Cruz got to work on Mayorkas.
Let’s take a look at CBP contacts, shall we? It drops to rock bottom, and then who or what appears? You do,” Cruz said. “And you are that red line!”You say nothing occurred, but this was here before we arrived here. No! You made the decision to let this happen, and Joe Biden is that red line!
Cruz also successfully duped Mayorkas into claiming that the 2022 death toll from illegal crossings of the southern boundary was unknown.
Cruz retorted, “Of course you don’t! I know that 853 people died.” You get elected, and if you look back to 1998, you’ll see that it was consistently in the 300s to the 400s.
Later, Cruz infuriated Mayorkas by suggesting he leave his post in protest of the Biden administration’s handling of the crisis.
It is Cruz’s responsibility for “the deaths, the assaults on children, and the rapes of children,” Cruz said. “And if you were honest, you’d step down.”
Cruz continued, “The men and women of the Border Patrol have never been undermined by a political leader. They hate you, Mr. Secretary, because you’re willing to follow political directions even if it means letting children be raped.” This is a major issue. How awful. And because it includes people, you still refuse to acknowledge that there is an issue.
Because he found Cruz’s remarks “revolting,” Mayorkas stated that he would not “respond” to them.
“It stinks that you refuse to do your duty!” Cruz said in reply.
Cruz repeatedly asking Mayorkas if there was a catastrophe at the southern border was a high point of the discussion.
A simple phrase with only three characters,” Cruz said. This is how you answer questions and carry out your duties as a politician: by attempting to deceive the American people.
