Tim Scott and Cory Booker, two Democrats, are bullish about the possibility of a bipartisan effort to overhaul the police force.

According to Tim Scott, who said on Monday, “I never left the discussion table,” the two never reached an agreement.

It is quite unlikely that a law will pass both houses of Congress despite the best efforts of the senior senators from each party.

Senators Tim Scott (R-SC) and Cory Booker (D-NJ) said on Monday that they will keep working together on police reform legislation in the aftermath of Tyre Nichols’ death.

Fox News Digital quotes a representative for Senator Scott as saying, “He’s been working on police budget and reform for much of the last decade.” He “never left the bargaining table” in his pursuit of better public safety, and he even won over politicians from the other party.

According to a statement sent by his office to Fox News, Senator Booker “has spent the past few days engaged in meetings with colleagues on both sides of the aisle and is examining all legislative alternatives.” The goal would be to make the police force in the United States more open, responsible, and competent. Booker wants his colleagues to adopt a law making the police more open and responsible, and he is pushing for this.

In 2021, Republicans and Democrats tried to talk across party lines with the help of then-Rep. Karen Bass (D-Calif.), but their profound disagreements prevented any real progress.

After months of talks, Scott was “very angry” that his fellow Democrats gave up on the cause.

Given his helplessness, he anticipated that “crime will continue to increase as safety deteriorates and more cops retire off the job.”

The public “realizes that Republicans have not backed us on fundamental core concerns of police reform,” Booker said at the time.

If the Democrats were to win the Senate, they would still have to negotiate with the House of Representatives, which is now controlled by the Republican Party.

In an interview published on Sunday, Ohio Republican and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan emphasized his resistance to modernizing the police force.

The host of NBC’s “Meet the Press” questioned Jordan whether he supports the plan to reorganize the FBI.

I don’t know whether there’s any regulation that can prevent the depravity that we saw,” Jordan was quoted as saying on Chuck Todd’s show.

Still, I’m concerned about the widespread indifference to human life. There is no amount of policy adjustments, training programs, or new laws that have ever… While handcuffed, this guy was viciously attacked by the police. It’s a lot of data to take in, but it reminded me of a hearing the Judiciary Committee had maybe two years ago at which George Floyd’s brother spoke. Affection, sincerity, and rationality all existed side by side in the past.

Jordan gave a deep consideration before answering, “Life is treasured.” Everybody in the room, on both sides, was present and attentive. We know this to be true because we saw firsthand the callous disregard with which these five individuals treated human life. And I don’t think these five are typical of the police force at large. Even if we make a concerted effort, I don’t think we can stop the film from being evil.
