On Wednesday, in response to Governor Ron DeSantis’s (R-FL) announcement that he would run for president in 2024, former President Donald Trump called the governor’s Twitter launch for his campaign a “disaster.” He also managed to slip in a dig at Kim Jung Un, the ruler of North Korea, whom he predicted would soon become a “friend.”
DeSantis formally declared his candidacy for president during a live-streamed event on Twitter with billionaire Elon Musk on Wednesday afternoon, hours before registering with the Federal Election Commission (FEC).
For his part, Trump took to Twitter to offer his congratulations to Sanctimonious on his decision to run for president. Without being assaulted by the Marxists, Communists, and Radical Left Lunatics of our country, he would never know the kind of job he is performing, so I hope that he will receive the whole experience. The leaders of hostile foreign countries have nothing on these lowlifes and misfits. To “make America great again,” it is imperative that they be soundly beaten.
After DeSantis’ Twitter event had some issues due to the heavy load it imposed on Twitter’s servers, Trump said, “‘Rob,'” your red button doesn’t work, but mine is superior in size, power, and functionality.” (as confirmed by my soon-to-be friend, North Korean leader Kim Jung Un)”
The fight for the Republican nomination has officially begun with DeSantis’s announcement. Even before DeSantis officially entered the campaign, Trump increased his attacks on the governor, who now represents the GOP’s greatest challenge to the former president. While DeSantis was getting ready for his 2024 campaign, he rarely mentioned Trump by name. The governor of Florida has instead taken indirect digs at Trump while talking about COVID initiatives and the upcoming election.
Several other contenders, like Nikki Haley and Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), are polling in the single digits, but Trump and DeSantis are currently at the top of the 2024 Republican Party presidential primary.
Trump’s status as the frontrunner in the Republican presidential primary was solidified at a raucous CNN town hall earlier this month. Early Republican primary polls show that despite his legal fights and claimed scandals, Trump maintains a sizable lead over his Republican primary rivals, with DeSantis appearing to be the only other Republican candidate who can threaten Trump’s chances of winning reelection.
