The pursuit of power can make some people oblivious to their own vulnerabilities. Joe Biden is in the firing line after the Democrats targeted Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA). The Democrat from California has been in government since 1992, making them about 90 years old. The rumor that her cognitive abilities have significantly declined is one of the town’s most pervasive urban legends. She has a terrific team working for her, so her office hasn’t gone crazy, but progressive members of Congress want her out of there because she’s delaying judicial selections. According to Wall Street Journal contributor Kimberley Strassel, Democratic candidates for judicial positions have a better chance of being approved because of the current makeup of Congress. Everything is doomed from the outset with a Republican House. However, the Left is now using age and competence concerns in an effort to remove Feinstein from her position. Joe Biden is now a sitting duck, as Strassel has pointed out.
There has been a vicious rumor campaign claiming that Feinstein has failed in her duties. The California senator’s health issues, such as an outbreak of shingles, have caused her to miss a number of votes. It provides the Left with a wealth of ammunition to use against her, but this has nothing to do with maintaining government operations. Biden’s plea for international collaboration in Ireland and his wish that both nations “lick the world” (via WSJ) demonstrate that none of them are very astute as Feinstein:
Regardless of the intentions, Mr. Khanna and Mr. Phillips brought up the topic of age and competence. Therefore, it’s hard to understand how Democrats’ silence regarding Mr. Biden isn’t a “dereliction of duty” on their part. It’s becoming increasingly difficult to deny his deteriorating condition, as he now stumbles and seems bewildered on a weekly if not daily basis. The New Zealand rugby team, the All Blacks, and the British paramilitaries, the Black and Tans, who helped govern Ireland in the 1920s, are both mentioned in this week’s news report about how humiliating it was for Mr. Biden to confuse the two groups.
Though concerns have intensified after the 2020 election, the Democratic establishment is reluctant to call for a primary challenge for Mr. Biden in 2024. In addition to worrying about the state of the country under Mr. Biden’s leadership, Democrats may also be concerned with internal party issues such as the current Feinstein moment.
In 19 months, what are the chances that Mr. Biden will be elected vice president? It’s possible that the low levels of support for the president among Democrats may discourage them from voting for their party’s selected, but unpopular, nominee. What if Mr. Biden declares his candidacy but fails to officially enter the race before next spring, throwing the party into disarray?
Given the current state of politics, it’s prudent to assume the worst. The situation becomes much more dire when warning indicators abound. The Feinstein moment might be interpreted by Democrats as a warning that they are endangering themselves by refusing to acknowledge the obvious to the rest of the country.
Joe has shown an interest in another political bid, but nothing has been officially decided. No announcement date has been set, and liberal Democrats should tread carefully: all the arguments they’ve used against Feinstein could just as well be used against their own party’s president. There is no supporting cast for the Democrats. The presidential primaries of 2020 revealed an overwhelming number of contenders who are either unpopular or unqualified to serve as president. To this day, Bernie Sanders remains an unpopular candidate among black Democrats. This is a major setback that prevents him from winning the national election. Vice President candidate Kamala Harris has shown to be incompetent and clumsy. A train catastrophe is too much for Pete Buttigieg to bear. The Democrats currently only have Joe Biden, who is very much in his own bubble.
It’s possible that the Democrats’ strategy of attacking the most visible leftist on Capitol Hill is not the greatest method to pick nominees. Then, maybe, most of these openings might be filled, and nominees would sail through the process with relative ease. That makes logic, but it’s not going to happen.
