On the very same day that failed Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot proclaimed that Chicago does not need help in tamping down on shootings and killings, 14 people were shot in her city while attending a funeral. In all fourteen people, all adults were shot and were taken to five different hospitals. Their conditions are not yet known. A black sedan pulled up near the funeral and opened fire. Members of the funeral immediately began shooting back, causing the car to crash.
So far, only one person of interest has been taken into custody. No motive has been disclosed by the police. The number of shootings ism drastically increasing at the same time that elected officials in the city discuss at least partially defunding the police. There is blood on the street and by extension blood on the hands of the mayor who refuses to take the necessary steps to end the violence.

“Unfortunately it appears like it was planned because as the people were coming out of the funeral home, then the shots rang out like they were literally waiting on them to come out,” Hughes said.
Chicago police reported at least 60 shell casings were found at the scene. They urged anyone who knows something or saw something to contact that department.
The incident comes just hours after Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot confirmed that federal agents are being sent to the city to curb violence, but the city doesn’t “see a Portland-style deployment coming.”
