The Department of Justice has filed a statement of interest on Friday as they support Michigan businesses and workers who are being held hostage by the irrational shut down in the state of Michigan by Gov Gretchen Whitmer. It is forcing businesses to shutter for good and causes many of their former workers from being able to pay their rent. Whitmer claims she is bankrupting her state in order to save it from a second wave of DTMNBN. None of the 21 states who have reopened have had a second wave.
Her popularity is right behind peanut putter and mustard sandwiches in Michigan. At one time she was considered the front runner for Biden’s running mate but her name is poison in Michigan and Biden needs Michigan to win.
Assistant Attorney General Eric Dreiband of the Civil Rights Division of the DOJ said:
“Our Constitution is enduring, and it is critically important that government comply fully with the Constitution in times of crisis.”
“The Constitution permits appropriate state and local government restrictions to protect the health and safety of Americans, but it does not permit arbitrary limits that limit the right of all people in our country to be treated equally and fairly by the government.”
The DOJ said in a letter to the court:
“The facts alleged suggest that Michigan has imposed arbitrary and irrational limits on Plaintiffs that, if established, could violate the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.”
Whitmer countered with:
“We have absolute confidence in the legal authority I have exercised to protect the people of Michigan. It is crystal clear that this challenge is coming directly from the White House, which is ignoring the risk of a second wave of the virus and pushing too quickly to roll back public health guidelines.”
“But I’ve been focused on doing my job, and I’m going to keep doing that and I’m not going to apologize about that. I’m not changing the way I run this state because of some protests.”
