This is a situation that will play itself out many times now and in the future. Liberal mayors and governors allow antifa and BLM to run wild and loot, burn and injure to their hearts content while the police is ordered to stand down. The same mayors and governors then try to put the bite on the federal government rather than suffer the consequences of their own actions.
Why should states that acted responsibly pay for the riots Democrats allowed in their cities? The simple answer is that they shouldn’t. The same reasoning holds true in states where they remained in permanent lock down in which the city and state lost valuable revenue. Frankly, I think Gov Tim Walz has a lot of chutzpah for even asking.
The Minneapolis Star Tribune reports:
Walz asked President Donald Trump to declare a “major disaster” for the state of Minnesota in his request to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) on July 2. More than 1,500 buildings were damaged by fires, looting and vandalism in the days of unrest that followed Floyd’s May 25 death in Minneapolis police custody, racking up more than $500 million in damages, according to Walz.
The governor’s spokesman, Teddy Tschann, confirmed late Friday that the request for federal aid was denied.
“The Governor is disappointed that the federal government declined his request for financial support,” Tschann said in a statement. “As we navigate one of the most difficult periods in our state’s history, we look for support from our federal government to help us through.”
President Trump offered to send in troops and other agents to help put down the riots but Gov Walz and Mayor Frey of Minneapolis refused. That was their choice and now they must live with the results of their action or lack thereof.
