Civil Rights attorney and lifelong Democrat, Leo Terrell says that he is embarrassed to be a Democrat after the way they demonized the Mount Rushmore tribute. He said that is a disgrace the way the Democrats tried to play the race card over Mount Rushmore.
CNN characterized Obama’s visit as :
CNN anchor Ron Marciano gushed:“Barack Obama is campaigning in South Dakota. That state’s primary is Tuesday. Obama arrived there last night and got a good look around Mt. Rushmore—it’s quite a sight of you haven’t seen it.”
But they took a completely different stance when President Trump visited calling it a monument for two slave owners. (Washington and Jefferson)
Terrell said:
“I am embarrassed to be a Democrat tonight.”
“[Mount Rushmore] is a great place for the president to celebrate our nation’s birthday.”
“That tweet — I want people to hear this. The Democratic Party calling this a ‘white supremacy’ meeting is the race card at its highest level and that came from the Democratic Party.”
“The bottom line is simply this. If you are a Democrat, you can be a racist. But the point here is, you accuse the Republicans of being racist and there is no evidence of that whatsoever. It’s embarrassing and I am embarrassed to be a Democrat tonight.”
During his speech to a crowd of vocal supporters Trump condemned the vandalism of historical statues across America and promised that “Rushmore will stand forever.”
Earlier in the week, Republican South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem had said that the DNC’s declaration of Mount Rushmore being a symbol of white supremacy provided a stark contrast between the Democratic Party and Republicans.
“Honestly, that tweet right there represents the choice that people have in this election,”she told Fox News’ Laura Ingraham as Noem praised the four presidents in the sculpture as icons of American democratic values.
