In a heartfelt live moment, Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett became visibly emotional during an appearance on MSNBC as she bid farewell to outgoing host Katie Phang, praising her for her journalistic integrity while also issuing strong political commentary on immigration and justice.
The exchange began with Phang reflecting on her show’s cancellation and thanking Crockett for consistently supporting democratic values. The Texas lawmaker, clearly moved by the tribute, wiped away tears as she responded, “We’ll miss you,” prompting Phang to choke up herself.
Phang, whose program had aired since 2022, was one of several progressive hosts let go during a major network reshuffle. Despite the somber farewell, both women expressed continued commitment to political dialogue and public service.
During the interview, Crockett also weighed in on the controversial deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a 29-year-old undocumented immigrant who was removed from Maryland to a high-security prison in El Salvador. Authorities initially admitted the deportation was a procedural mistake, but later reversed course, claiming Garcia had ties to the notorious MS-13 gang.
Crockett, however, questioned the credibility of those claims and strongly criticized the Trump administration’s stance. “They admitted they were wrong,” she said. “Now they’re doubling back to justify it. But as far as I’m concerned, he’s a lot less criminal than the person sitting in the White House, because he doesn’t have any convictions.”
Her remarks reflect the growing political clash over immigration enforcement, due process, and what Democrats say is selective application of justice. The segment concluded on an emotional note, with Phang assuring viewers—and Crockett—that her voice would remain part of the national conversation.
The interview highlighted not only the personal bond between the journalist and the lawmaker, but also the rising political tension over deportation practices and presidential accountability.
